Healthy Peanut Butter Pie
Peanut butter. When I hear ‘peanut butter’, I get excited. The creamy, thick texture as well as the high protein content is a plus! My husband and I like anything with peanut butter, especially desserts. One of our favorite peanut butter desserts is peanut butter pie. Most pies have lots of added sugars. Since we love our sweets, I created a peanut butter pie that is high in protein and low in sugar without compromising the taste!

So you are telling me that there is a peanut butter pie that is “healthy” AND tastes good? Is that possible?! Yes it is! 🙂 Read further to learn how to make this tasty, high protein dessert!
The secret ingredient in this pie is Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt has about twice the amount of protein than regular yogurt. Why is protein in a dessert a good thing? There are a couple reasons why protein is good for you, especially in a tasty dessert:
- It keeps you feeling full longer
- Protein helps slow the spike in blood sugars, even more important for diabetics
- Protein is needed for the growth, repair, and maintenance of our cells
If you want to keep the sugar content low, I recommend choosing plain Greek yogurt rather than flavored yogurt because flavored can have added sugars. Greek yogurt can have a bitter taste so it is recommended to add some honey and vanilla to take away the bitterness as well as add some natural flavor.
For the peanut butter, I recommend using all natural peanut butter. Natural peanut butter does not have added oils or sugar. The ingredient list of the peanut butter I buy is: peanuts, salt. With natural peanut butter, the natural oil of the peanuts rises and sits at the top of the jar. You will need to mix the peanut butter well to incorporate the oil back into the peanut mixture before using. The easiest way to do this is either use a butter knife to mix thoroughly or use a small handheld mixer directly into the jar. Once mixed, the peanut butter should be stored in the refrigerator.
How to Make
The filling of this pie is only 4 simple ingredients– Greek yogurt, peanut butter, honey, and pure vanilla. After measuring out the ingredients, mix all till well combined. The filling will have a creamy, thick texture.
The base of the pie is a graham cracker crust. I recommend choosing graham crackers that do not have any harmful, synthetic preservatives. Butter is used to adhere the crust together. You can use dairy butter or non-dairy butter. To make the crust sweeter, a tablespoon or two of honey can be added (recommended). If you use honey flavored graham crackers, you can omit adding honey but may need to replace the honey with extra butter so the graham crackers create a nice formed crust. If you want a quicker option, you can purchase a graham cracker pie crust found at most grocery stores.
Once the crust and filling are made, spread the filling gently into the crust. I like to use a spatula because I can spread the filling evenly and get all the filling goodness out of the bowl (of course any leftovers in the bowl can be eaten…no eggs! 😉 ).
Once the filling is evenly distributed over the crust, you can decorate the top with any toppings you desire! I love chocolate chips so I added chocolate chips to the top. I have also made it with just a drizzle of peanut butter. Peanuts are another option, or a mix of both!
This pie can be eaten right away or stored in the fridge to chill. I prefer it chilled as it holds up better and tastes heavenly! This pie does not last long in our house…if you see our fridge with this pie, you will also see a spoon in the pie pan…instant access! 😉 ENJOY!
